What is the number one reason males come to see their primary care physician? Back pain. It’s at the top of the list, and second place isn’t even close.
Raising awareness, educating, sharing stories and creating effective treatment plans for spine health is what World Spine Day is all about.
The theme for 2019 is “Get Spine Active”. This is meaningful movement to achieve better quality of life. Not just regular exercise, but even more standing breaks at work when sitting for prolonged periods of time. A walk outside in the morning. Basic stretches and being mindful of sitting up straight. We seem to always associate health with exercise, however it can be much more simple mindful acts that can help promote spine health.
With any healthy lifestyle there are several aspects to well rounded health. Periodic maintenance with professionals and preventative care will help those in pain feel better, and keep those who are not experiencing any back pain able to stay active without injury.
Preventative care starts with examination. Just like you would have an annual physical and blood work, your spine is one of the most vital and important structures in your body. The main hub for your spinal cord, nerves and physical movement. Evaluating this structure and it’s overall health is very important.
Treatment is for both the injured and the healthy. Spinal adjustments, massage therapy, acupuncture and neuromuscular education all are solutions for pain but are also tools to prevent any future trouble with back pain. The easiest way to prevent back pain is to be proactive. Don’t wait until you’re injured, achy pr in pain to get an evaluation and education on how to prevent or treat your spine health.
